Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world just behind English. Spanish is the official language of 21 countries, and is spoken throughout a total of 44. In the United States, Spanish speaking citizens make up the fastest growing segment of the population. According to the 2010 Census, there was an astonishing 43% increase in Spanish speaking citizens from the 2000 Census.
In today's global business world, the ability to communicate in both English and Spanish, and have a high level of cultural intelligence, affords employees better opportunities, and increased compensation. As a result of the changes in our global work environment, several college majors now require four years of a foreign language in high school. Over half of students choose Spanish. Students who are able to demonstrate a knowledge of Spanish may be able to test out of one or more of these high school classes. Starting Spanish lessons at an early age ensures the best success.
